In a perfect world I’d find more time to read the news. Between the Portlandia skit “Did you read it?” and living with a boy who has somehow read every piece of literature pertaining to… everything… ever written, I am developing a bit of a complex about my reading habits and apparent lack of intellectual curiosity.
It’s a good day – amazing day – when I can read all my email. And by the time I finish doing that, the chances that I’m going to sit down and go in search of more reading material are very slim. Or, if I do, lets be honest. I’m going to read Game of Thrones.
But this is unacceptable! I am a business owner and an adult. I should at least be reading news that pertains to my profession. So, I think I’m going to make a resolution about resolutions – new ones for each month. This month (I cant believe its almost February) it will be my February resolution to start finding time each week to read the news.

love the concept of a new resolution each month – it reminds me of “the happiness project” (something else for you to read, lol) . glad you have your priorities straight with game of thrones tho, one of the best series i’ve ever read!
I am in love with this print and the sentiment behind it. I suppose if I were her, I would be reading from a laptop (my professional reading is the Chronicle of Higher Education). Thank you for this reminder at the start of the week!
If there was a “Biggest Guilty Pleasure Ever Award” Game of thrones would win it hands down.
darling illustration!
I love Game of Thrones, and I also do a bit of art myself, so to make more time to read the fun stuff and to have a bit more knowledge of current events I listen to audio books while I work on my art. I have Game of Thrones on audio and it helps me to concentrate and the time flies by. Then I have more time for current events, when I would have been reading a book of my choice. Anyways Love the new sketch as always!
Game of Thrones is amazing! I’m almost done with book two and good to know you’re a fan too.
Also, on two separate notes – 1. love Portlandia and 2. I’m now going to take part in this monthly resolution idea.
I love this sketch, I want my hair to look like that! Good for you, I like the monthly concept. I’m watching a lot of the news these days…:)
Big Game of Thrones fan here at least the show. Haven’t read the books yet. Anyway love this illustration, especially the detail on the WWD and the chair.
I love the idea of monthly resolutions. And definitely want to know more about how you go with your February resolution. I’ve just started with working my own business from home and reading or watching the news seems to fall way down the list. As you say, at the end of the day, it’s the last thing you want to be doing, especially watching depressing news. But on the same token, I don’t want to become ‘dumb’ to what is occurring in the world around us. Please let me kow how you build this into your routine – I’m all ears!!
The Wall Street Journal is a great read. I’m old school I like paper, but any platform will do. If you can’t do M-F pick up the weekend edition. And/or check out The Financial Times website. Both are terrific.
