Hello! Today I am proud to share with you that my art was featured in Washingtonian Bride & Groom in their new Summer/Fall 2011 issue!
Here is an illustration of mine on the Table of Contents page for the magazine and…
Here, on the Editors Pick page, my custom illustrations are listed as a great bridal gift. And in case you do not have super human vision, here’s a close up of my Kate Middleton illustration and where it says I can provide you with an “adorable sketch of your wedding gown”…
Isn’t that just delightful? I feel so honored to be listed among other great bridal products like those gorgeous Kate Spade sparkly heels and fellow stationer Hanna Nation’s lovely note cards.
I was so flattered when Sarah the style editor called me up to ask if she could feature me as one of her picks and even more beside myself with joy when Jill, the main editor called to say they’d like to put artwork on the T.O.C. too! She called me while I was in a cab, running late to an appointment to see an apartment, in a torrential down pour in New York while carrying giant framed illustrations on my way back from packing up the last of the Stationery Show and just feeling generally very flustered (Oh and did I mention, I had a train to DC to catch and about a week worth of emails waiting to be replied to?) So, right when I thought nothing was going right, she called to tell me the exciting news and suddenly everything was right in illustrator land again. Funny how things work out like that, isn’t it!
Ok, marvelous Thursday to you all. Off to sketch…
happy first day of summer!
to celebrate this most carefree of seasons, i am trying out a new brush. its bigger so i have less control over the colors. i think i like the messiness it allows for.
Good morning! Good weekend? I spent mine trying to check things off my “DC bucket list”
The closer I get to moving, the more I realize how much I still haven’t done here! So I’m enjoying being a tourist in my own city. And of course, looking forward to being a tourist in my new city soon!
This above sketch is what I call tourist chic. It is inspired by a snapshot of a Man Repeller outfit from last week. Although I assume she was not headed out to explore museums, but probably instead to go discuss birth control glasses, I still thought that outfit would be perfect for a day of exploring.
Erika Bearman of OscarPRGirl, inspired by the style of her iconic instagram outfit posts
let me tell you a little story…
This past Tuesday evening, under the deepest oaths of secrecy, the communications team at Oscar de la Renta contacted me to request a birthday sketch of their fearless leader Erika Bearman, who you may know as OscarPRGirl. They needed the artwork by Thursday, so we decided the safest (and most fun) way to get the gift to the birthday girl was for me to stop by the Oscar offices to deliver personally since I was up in New York anyway for the day.
Thus begun the most beautiful hour of my day, week, maybe my year. Although they seemed to think I was doing them a favor by hand delivering the birthday gift, it really felt like it was the other way around.
Erika (who, by the way, was wearing the exact outfit I had sketched her in) and her lovely assistant, Gabby took me on tour of the office. Highlights include visiting exquisite pieces from Resort 2012 and Spring 2012 as they were carefully pieced together by dedicated seamstresses, taking a turn through the new shoe collection display and mentally making a shopping list of which ones (all of them) that I wanted to buy, watching the designers discuss the spring fabric selections, visiting Oscar’s personal office to see some charming candid black and whites of he and Audrey Hepburn laughing over pasta and of course, getting to sit an chat with the girls in the “communications nook”
It was incredible to stand right next to the works of a legend as they were stitched, one ruffle at a time, into perfection. It was a magical start to my New-Yorker-hood, and a day I will never forget.
I am bursting with inspiration.
Off to sketch, have a lovely weekend!
the season of the little white dress is finally upon us!
i’m off to new york today for some pre-moving recon. wish me luck!
